Architectural Design and Concept:

  • The exterior’s two intersecting L-shaped forms provide both an architectural identity and a functional shield for the house. These solid, thick walls are reminiscent of fortress walls, giving the impression of a historical structure repurposed for contemporary family life. The heaviness of the walls is softened by strategic openings, including expansive windows and sliding glass doors that invite natural light into the interior while maintaining a sense of security and privacy.

Architectural Design and Concept:

      • Form & Structure: The intersecting L-shaped forms create a dramatic façade, accentuating the home’s protective and monumental character. The exterior walls, with their substantial thickness, give the impression of a fortress that has been opened up, as though its original purpose has shifted from defense to leisure and comfort.

      • Materiality: The materials chosen for the exterior emphasize strength and durability. Stone, concrete, and textured finishes contribute to the fortress aesthetic, while natural tones ensure the house blends harmoniously with the hilltop setting. The rugged textures and muted colors help the residence feel grounded in its surroundings, while clean lines and minimalist detailing introduce a contemporary feel.

      • Openings & Windows: The structure’s thick walls are punctuated by carefully placed, large windows and glass sliding doors that offer selective views of the landscape. These openings soften the fortress-like appearance, creating a welcoming feel without compromising the home’s unique, fortress-inspired character.

      • Outdoor Spaces: The flat plot allows for expansive outdoor living spaces that connect seamlessly with the interior, especially from the living room, which flows directly into the surrounding outdoor area. Landscaped with natural, low-maintenance plants and open patios, the outdoor areas enhance the connection between the house and the environment.
